Saying goodbye to papaw's cabin

Welcome, friends. I am eager to introduce you to my favorite place on earth, nestled in the woods of a quiet cove on a lake in Tennessee. From a humble cabin built by my grandfather to our forever home, I invite you to follow our custom build home project from beginning to end as we incorporate materials from the original cabin and create a rustic-industrial style home that we hope will be enjoyed for generations to come.

It was heartbreaking to tear down what my grandfather had worked so hard to build. But practically everything about the old structure had to be replaced, and it was cheaper to start new.

My grandfather did everything by hand, including digging the footers. At that time, it would have been almost impossible to get large work trucks across a narrow dirt easement, crossing four properties, and down a steep hill on a narrow foot path to where the cabin sits. I say "almost impossible" because that is exactly what we are trying to do now.

A clean slate . . .
