Why You Will Love Precast Walls

Image
The foundation walls are up, and I couldn't be more pleased. Before I get into why these walls are so great, I want to first say that these walls saved me money.  No, I'm not talking about how the walls will save me money eventually because of the energy efficiency, which they will.  I'm talking dollar for dollar, these walls were CHEAPER than poured walls once you take into consideration the costs of insulation, waterproofing, and sealing (which is included with the precast walls).   (You can see the white insulation in the interior) These walls are made-to-order in the factory and delivered and installed on site.   It took less than 3 weeks after ordering our walls for them to be ready (and we were excavating the site during this time, so no time lost).  Usually the walls are installed using a crane, but because of how difficult it is to get to our site, we had to use a lull. A crane can install the walls in a single day. A lull takes about 2 days, which

Saying goodbye to papaw's cabin

Welcome, friends. I am eager to introduce you to my favorite place on earth, nestled in the woods of a quiet cove on a lake in Tennessee. From a humble cabin built by my grandfather to our forever home, I invite you to follow our custom build home project from beginning to end as we incorporate materials from the original cabin and create a rustic-industrial style home that we hope will be enjoyed for generations to come.  It was heartbreaking to tear down what my grandfather had worked so hard to build. Sure Dwelling's Mission

"My people will abide in a peaceful habitation, in sure dwellings, and in quiet resting places." Isaiah 32:18. The Dwelling is intended to document so much more than the building and design of our forever home.  Upon the completion of our home, my husband and I plan to receive foster children into our dwelling, hopefully providing the least of these with a peaceful, sure, and quiet place to call home and receive love.  Wherever God leads us--from foster care to adoption-- it is my prayer that this home will be the backdrop for His ministry and His perfect will. While I prayerfully await the time when this all comes to fruition, I will do my best to document my journey as it progresses. For now, this consists primarily of the new build project. After all, you can't pass a home study when there is no home. As we get closer to the completion of the house, I will share more about our PATH training and preparation for fostering. Until then, I hope you enjoy a glimpse into
